From the moment you step through the door of this newly opened restaurant, you can tell that an enormous amount of effort and money has been spent to get it "just right".
The decor is expensive. The table cloths are spotlessly clean and ever so thick. Everything from the menus to the knives and forks say "Quality", with a capital Q. Certainly on looks alone, it would be the sort of place to take someone, if you wanted to impress.
The menu is long and quite varied. All the usual favourites and some interesting house specialities to tempt the adventurous.
To help those not used to Indian cuisine, there is a brief description and a helpful rating system, showing how hot the dishes are.
Great - I immediately scanned the menu for the hottest dishes I could find.
The food, when it arrived was very tasty and subtle - not at all bland. I really enjoyed it. My only disappointment was that it was far too mild for my liking.
I called the waiter over and mentioned this to him. "Well sir", he replied, "the dishes you ordered are the hottest on our menu and I thought they would be far too hot for you, so I told chef not to put as much spice and chillies in as normal." (I was the only non-Asian in a full restaurant.)
Such a shame. Everything else was "just right".
