I visited the derby digger in wickford today 14th June 2011 with my 2 sisters. Although very reasonably priced the carvery was extremely poor - every vegetable was frozen and the stuffing inedible. The 3meat choices were overcooked and dry and the gravy was tasteless! We were extremely disappointed with the overall condition of the restaurant and although extremely cheap the meal was not worth £3.95. Why can't they serve fresh vegetables at least? Mushy overcooked frozen veg is simply not apetizing - regardless of the price. We will definately never return!
This is a homely pub/restaurant with excellent value for money carvery.Food is always piping hot and very tasty.Very child friendly.Always busy, which means fresh food turnover
The menue is standard carvery, when they actually have anything to serve. The quality is fair for the price asked. The service is POOR. Generaly cleanliness is lacking, and cutlery is never very clean. I tend to take my own. I think the management needs reviewing, and renewing, perhaps then we'll see a bit more action and respect for customers. The Young carvery chef needs to be taught some diplomacy with regards handing the customer a plate.
Three meats, as standard at a carvery, but on four occasions that I've visited they have run out of food. Last being on 26th Aug at 5.30pm. Vegetable choice is limited, I suppose due to pricing of meal, but adequate for the money. Never had a sweet, so cannot comment on them.
Never been to a pub/restaurant where there was so little enthusiasm for serving a customer. The service one gets is very basic, - staff need to be sent on a course relevant to teaching them certain principals of servicing the public. Hygiene standards are very poor, and management is non existant. What more can one say............
If proper Management were in place at this establishment, then perhaps the place could be pulled into shape. There is a total lack of respect for customers and their requirements. All the staff seem to have a care-less attitude. The premises are far from clean, and the toilet facilities are usually in a shocking state, especially on weekends. Perhaps its down to the local travellers who frequent the place.
Check by phone before frequenting for a meal, as they regularly run out of food due to poor management. The food is cheap - but what price is cheap?
